If you’re getting ready for a brand shoot, you’re probably knee-deep in outfits, props, and Pinterest boards.
But here’s the better question to ask:
How do you plan brand photos that last and still feel like you as your business evolves?
So many founders invest in brand photos that feel on-trend but age out fast. You launch, grow, and suddenly the images that once felt so you don’t match where you’re headed.
Let’s fix that.
Whether this is your first shoot or your fifth, these are the things I recommend thinking through to get brand photos that actually last.

Plan for Your Website First, Not Just Social Media
Social is where people meet you. Your website is where they book you.
Too often, I see clients prepping for a brand shoot with only Instagram in mind. They want scroll-stopping content, which is great, but your session should serve your website first. That’s the piece of your brand that sticks around the longest.
Before we plan your shoot:
• What offers are you promoting this year?
• What new pages will you need photos for?
• What platforms will you use besides Instagram?
Those answers shape everything from the orientation we shoot in to the background and expressions we capture.
A good brand session doesn’t just look pretty in the feed. It builds the foundation for your entire visual brand.
Avoid the Props That Everyone Else Is Using
Let’s talk about laptops on marble tables, coffee cups with perfect latte art, and stacks of pastel books.
These aren’t bad…but they’re everywhere.
The more generic your props, the faster your photos will blend in with everyone else’s.
Instead, ask: What would my dream client recognize as uniquely me?
Bring things with a story. A little stack of family photos. Your handwritten notes. Your signature lipstick.
One of my clients brought a giant vintage frame because she teaches creatives how to think outside the box. It was unexpected, and it worked.
You don’t need props to prove your professionalism. You need visual cues that connect.

Dress for the Version of You You’re Growing Into
Your brand photos should reflect where your business is headed, not just where it’s been.
That doesn’t mean dressing up in a way that feels stiff or “not you.”
It means showing up with intention. Choose outfits that feel aligned with the kind of work you want to do more of, the clients you want to attract, and the confidence you want to carry into your next season.
Ask yourself: Would this still feel like me if I booked my dream project next week?
This isn’t about being fancier. It’s about being future-aligned.
Capture the Version of You That Feels Rooted, Not Rushed
The photos you’ll still love a year from now?
They’re not the ones that looked the trendiest.
They’re the ones that feel like you: centered, confident, and in your element.
That’s why I don’t rush through poses or over-direct. I watch for the moments where you exhale, soften, or fully step into your space.
We capture you at ease. That’s what will still resonate later, even after your business grows or your brand evolves.
When a photo reflects who you really are, it doesn’t expire.
